Wow, about a week ago, we recently won another free Amazon gift card, a free $5 Amazon gift card on iRazoo! And then again a few days ago, we won yet ANOTHER free Amazon gift card on iRazoo! This makes 11 times we have instantly won free Amazon gift cards on iRazoo. So I can definitely tell you that iRazoo is not a scam! :)

Are you familiar with iRazoo? Like Swagbucks, it's a great way to get FREE Amazon gift cards and FREE stuff online. You can earn a free $5 Amazon gift card on iRazoo every 10 days! (You can earn 300 points a day on iRazoo and cash out for an Amazon gift card at 3000 points, which means you can earn a $5 Amazon gift card every 10 days!)

With Swagbucks, you GET PAID to search online and you get 3 bucks just to sign up. iRazoo is a little different, and as I mentioned awhile back, iRazoo has changed their format recently. iRazoo used to reward you 2 points for searching online and for 2 points for rating websites. Now you receive 4 points for rating websites and 4 points for commenting about websites. You do not get automatic points for searching any more, but you can still instantly win Amazon gift cards from searching!

Also, if you refer friends and they win Amazon gift cards from searching, you win too! So if your friend wins a $5 Amazon gift card, you do too! How cool is that? Now you might think it's impossible to win Amazon gift cards via instant win, but I am surprised at how easy it is to win! We have won $55 in Amazon gift certificates via instant win on iRazoo in the past few months alone. Plus, we now earn 4 points for rating websites and 4 points for commenting (which is super easy / quick). Once you have reached 3,000 points, you can cash out for Amazon gift cards, so we also earn Amazon gift cards that way. I really like the new format of iRazoo.

If you haven't joined iRazoo yet, give it a try and start earning free money today... Or if you joined awhile back but haven't visited recently, check it out again. Try out the new system for earning points. I think you will find you now earn Amazon gift cards MUCH more quickly than before. And when you instantly win an Amazon gift card, drop us a line to let us know! We love to hear about our readers' successes!

Last Wednesday Momma was in a town 40 miles away and had her suv break down, leaving her stranded. Great, especially since I was at home with a twisted ankle trying to get some bedrest. So I arranged a repair shop, arranged a tow truck and drove down to pick her and my son up and brought them home. I started hunting and pecking to see where we had any extra cash sitting around that could be used in addition to the emergency fund knowing things could be bad. The SUV in question is a 2000 chevy blazer with almost 100k on the odometer. So far it has been a great little SUV, very utilitarian, decent MPG, reliable and best of all, for several years now... owned free and clear.

I grew up around cars and worked on them for years, my gut is telling me based on the symptoms that it is either a bad torque converter (bad, expensive) or a blow tranny (really bad, horribly expensive).

I am really happy we set up the emergency fund. In the beginning, I thought it was a waste of time, that the cash would be better spent paying down debts. Now because we socked some cash away for this kind of thing we at least have a healthy majority of the repair cost saved up. In the past we just would have slapped it on Amex and paid the minimums.

So the estimates have come in and the verdict is that we need to replace the transmission. A rebuilt unit with 3 year warranty and all the labor and fluids comes to a grand total of $2400. OUCH. I called around to 3 separate shops for quotes and they are all within about 100 dollars of each other. So it looks like the emergency fund is going to be drained and then some. I guess that's life... manure happens.

Guess the extra principal payments/snowflaking to the mortgage is just going to have to wait a couple months until we build the E-Fund back up again.

Wow, I just got another paid product trial invitation!

Valued Opinions Survey site offers paid surveys up to $50 per survey and paid product trials. I just wanted to give you yet another a quick update - I was very excited again recently, because I received another email survey invitation from Valued Opinions that said the following (if you recall, it was only a couple weeks ago I got a similar email!):

"This survey is a bit different to our regular surveys; when you qualify you will be asked if you would like to test a product that will be sent to you in the mail. In order for us to send the product, you will be asked for your name and contact details during the survey. Once you have tested the product you will then be asked to take part in another survey."

As I've mentioned, I have done paid product trials with Valued Opinions before, and they were awesome! You get paid to take an initial survey, then they send you a free product to try, and then you get paid to take another survey at the end! So you get paid for two surveys, and get a FREE product! I have also done lots of paid product trials through MySurvey.

  • If you haven't signed up for Valued Opinions Surveys yet, you really need to try this company. It seems I've been getting paid product trial invitation emails much more frequently, so they may be increasing the number of paid products trials, which is GREAT news!

For all the readers who have been around a while, you probably remember my debt snapshots... an update to the outstanding debts. I did this as a motivational tool to help keep us on track in paying everything off. In the last several months I have been busy and Momma has graciously taken over most of the day to day posting, bringing you all the great deals and freebies she finds.

So, in keeping with the "debt-free" theme and in order to once again help motivate ourselves to reduce and eliminate expenses where possible so we can put that money towards paying debt off, I have updated the spreadsheet.

For those who aren't up to speed with our tactics in this war on debt, we have been using a combination of the debt snowball and debt snowflake methods.

(Click on the pic to enlarge)

The good news... We are FINALLY more than 50% paid off from our starting point. WOOOHOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Only 48%/97k left to pay off... LOL... looks like we still have a lot of work to do.

Since paying off the truck on New Years Eve, we have been putting every spare penny towards paying off our remaining mortgage and have made some great progress. With a lot of hard work and frugal living, we have managed to not only add an extra 650 bucks a month to our principal with the debt snowball, but also snowflake two 1000 dollar payments on top of that. As usual, it seems like all those 5 dollar surveys, online money making activities, free coupons and frugal lifestyle choices don't account for much individually. And... as usual... we are surprised by the amount saved up by adding up the survey checks, savings from couponing and reduced expenses from living frugally over a couple months.

Couponing is a tried and true method of saving money. It is easy to do and you are able to actually see the money you save every week. For those of you who are just starting to get into the coupon world, there are some simple things you to make the transition into coupon savings easy!

When I started couponing I started by purchasing my coupons. Although I wouldn’t recommend this method as a long-term solution, it is a great way to begin couponing and find out if saving with coupons is for you!

STEP ONE

Start at couponmom.com or find a blog at Becentsable.com that lists your local grocery store lists. My own blog, Little People Wealth, has grocery lists for HyVee, Price Chopper, and Nature’s Pantry (an organic store in Independence Missouri), CVS, and Walgreens. Your grocery list will show the products that are on sale and the products that have a coupon available. Access the list within the first day or two after it comes out.

STEP TWO

Write your grocery list. Decide what you need and mark down the coupons that you need (along with the number you want). The coupons will be written with some letters along with a date. The letters are the insert or magazine that the coupon came in (RP = red plum, SS = smartsource, AY = All You). The date is the week that the coupon came out.

STEP THREE

Go to The Coupon Master or www.thecouponclippers.com and purchase the coupons that you want. The coupons usually cost around 10% of their value. Remember, this is not a long term solution, but instead, it is a way for you to try out coupon savings to see if it is for you! You will save quite a bit even though you are paying for the coupons.

STEP FOUR

Wait for your coupons (3-4 days). Ads are good for 7 days. If you access and write your list on day 1 or 2 then you should have your coupons on day 4, 5, or 6. After you receive your coupons go to the store to purchase your deals.

PREPARATION FOR THE FOLLOWING WEEKS

Get a Sunday newspaper that week and start clipping. Purchasing the coupons will get your feet wet (and allow you to start without a coupon stash), but it will be cheaper in the long run if you purchase a paper. Keep watching blogs for printable coupon updates. If you see one you want print it and file it with your other coupons. Printable coupons are only available to a certain print number so they sometimes are no longer available when you want them!

You can continue this process for about a month (which is how long it will take you to build up a sizable coupon stash via the Sunday papers. You also have the option of waiting to purchase the paper until you know couponing is for you. This way you are not investing in a coupon organizer or clipping coupons just to find out that it is not something you want to do! I used this method for the first month (I shopped every other week) that I clipped coupons and I found that it cost me about $15, but I saved well over $100. It is a simple non-commitment way to try it out!

Heidi writes for Little People Wealth, a money saving blog that teaches you to spend small in order to live large. She has coupon tutorials for the beginner and the advanced as well as many printable coupon sites so you can save even more!

CVS has a hot deal going on right now where you can get diapers for less than 9 cents each and shipped for FREE! The CVS Supreme diapers are awesome! You need to try them with your little ones. In my opinion, they are just as good (or even better) than some of the name brands! Here's how to get this deal:

  • Create a free account at Upromise here (it's free to sign up, and you get cash back on your purchases that you can use toward college expenses - either yours, or your children's - you can even use the account to help pay off student loans!): Upromise - Turn your everyday spending into college savings
  • Add a credit card to your Upromise account (the one you will use for online purchases) - if you use a Mastercard for this deal, you will get an extra $5 off
  • Within Upromise, click on "Earn Rewards" and search for CVS.
  • Then click on the "Shop Now" to get to the CVS website within Upromise.
  • You are now at the CVS website. Click on "Baby and Child" and then "Diapers and Wipes." If you click on "Diapers", you will see the CVS Pharmacy brand diapers listed first. The diapers are on sale for $32.36. This is for an entire CASE of diapers. So if you buy size 1, you would get 264 diapers (44 in a pack * 6 packs) in one case. Add 2 cases to your cart. Your total will be $54.72, because $10 is automatically deducted off the price when you buy over $60 worth.
  • Check out and pay with Mastercard, and you will receive an additional $5 off. You will also receive 5% cash back in your Upromise account.
The grand total for all these diapers (2 huges cases!) after discounts and cash back will be around $47! So, as an example, if you buy size 1 CVS brand diapers, you will get 528 diapers for $47.00, or less than 9 cents a diaper after your cash back and discounts!

This is an amazing deal that won't last long, so jump on it ASAP if you want this deal!!!

With the economy like it is today, it seems like more people are doing "staycations" or staying close to home this summer. Based on a study I read about recently by Clorox, this means more cleaning for parents as families are spending more time at home! And this means it is more important than ever to ensure children are safe around the house. With this in mind, here are five great summer cleaning and safety tips I saw from Mom Central and Clorox that I wanted to share with you:

Staying Safe at BBQs. According to a recent survey, 70 percent of Moms are cooking more at home and many are likely switching up their meal routine with an outdoor BBQ. Make sure your kids have a safe BBQ experience by keeping them away from the flames and any sharp knives. Also, don't forget to check that your child's hamburger is fully cooked. Always keep a thermometer on hand to be sure all food has reached the appropriate inside temperature.

Keep the Pool Cool and Clean. If your kids love to spend hot afternoons in kiddie pools, you know the importance of cleaning the pool area. Dump out water after each session, and keep the pool clean by disinfecting it with a solution of ¾ cup bleach* to one gallon of water. Don't forget to rinse well and dry thoroughly after each cleaning (never leave any water in the pool). Be sure to always supervise children when they are in or around any water. (* Always remember to read and follow precautions and usage directions before using cleaning products)

Staying Healthy and Hydrated. Spending time in the heat means kids will be more prone to becoming dehydrated. Remind kids to take frequent rest/drink breaks in the shade when playing outside and try to avoid activity during peak sun hours. Encourage fluids before, during, and after outside activities.

Having Peace of Mind at Playgrounds. Sometimes just getting out of the house is the best way to keep it clean, but before letting kids loose at the playground, ensure the safety of the equipment. Swing seats and slides can really heat up in the sun – test them out before your kids hop on to avoid burns. Be sure the playground surface is composed of a soft material to help prevent injury. All playground equipment should be routinely checked for any broken or loose parts. As always, adult supervision is a must at all times!

Saving on Spills. Spending extra time around the house, especially with kids, often means more spills to clean up. Synthetic sponges and kitchen cloths can start to smell and carry bacteria, but you don't have to toss them out after a few uses. One option to reduce bacteria is to sanitize sponges and dishrags by soaking them in a bleach solution (¾ cup of bleach* to a gallon of water) for 5 minutes in the sink. Don't forget to rinse and dry when done. A wet sponge can also be microwaved to get rid of bacteria. (* Always remember to read and follow precautions and usage directions before using cleaning products)

  • What other safety or frugal cleaning tips do you have for the summer? We'd love to hear your tips - feel free to comment on this blog post or contact us at eadflmomma at gmail dot com. Here's to a great, safe, and clean summer!

Get paid to take fun video & political surveys with HCD Surveys!

HCD Surveys is doing a huge push this week trying to get new people to take paid online surveys. I have been a member of this paid online survey company for awhile now, and it is a lot of fun. Most of their surveys are video surveys (you watch a video and give your opinion) and they've also had lots of fun political surveys (where you mainly watch a video and give your opinion about the video). The surveys with this company are quite different than most of the other paid survey companies, because with most of them, you watch a simple video and then give your opinion. And, since they're doing a big push this week trying to get new survey respondents, I wanted to mention this company again.

It's free to sign up, and you get paid to take surveys online - you can cash out at $10. I just cashed out again today! They have a special promotion right now, and if you sign up during the promotional period, you will get $1 just for filling out your profile. How cool is that?
I've earned a good deal of money from this survey company, and it's one of my favorites right now.
