I have posted several times about the Nielsen HomeScan rewards program now and wanted to update my progress with you all.

I recently received the following email from HomeScan, so it looks like I should be able to start the program soon:
“Thank you for signing up to participate on the Nielsen Homescan Consumer Panel!
Your household is on our Reserve Status Waiting List. This means a scanner is not available; however, your potential panel membership is very important to us.
Homescan® membership is always voluntary and completely free. We’ll provide you with a hand-held scanner and any associated materials to use for as long as you’re an active member of the panel.
Every time you or members of your household shop, you’ll use the scanner to scan the UPC barcodes on your purchases. And then, once a week, using your scanner, you’ll transmit this information to us for free… As a member, you’ll earn valuable gift points for sending us your purchase information each week. These gift points can then be redeemed for name-brand gifts from our extensive gift catalog. In addition, we have a great sweepstakes program that members can qualify for simply by scanning and transmitting their purchase information to us each week.
Questions And Answers About The Nielsen Homescan Consumer Panel
Q. Who uses the information I provide?
A. Consumer-product manufacturers and retail stores need to know what products all types of households use. This helps them decide what products to continue manufacturing and selling, which ones to improve upon, etc.
Q. What if I don’t buy very much?
A. That’s OK – we still value your participation! In addition to knowing what products you buy, it’s just as important for manufacturers and retailers to know whether you buy a little or a lot.
Q. How much does panel membership cost?
A. Nothing. There is never any cost to you. In fact, you’ll be rewarded for participating!
Q. How much time will I have to spend participating on the panel?
A. The process of scanning and transmitting your purchases requires a total weekly commitment of about one to two hours. Keep in mind that the amount of time you spend may vary depending on the size of your household and your purchasing habits.
