Nielsen HomeScanner – get freebies for the grocery shopping you already do: It’s time for an update on the Nielsen HomeScan program. We have had the Nielsen HomeScanner for around 2 months now. We have already reached the first prize level, but I think I may save up for a really big prize – possibly a GPS unit, All in One Printer, Kitchenaid mixer, iPod, or an Xbox. I am accumulating points quicker than I thought I would, due in part to taking lots of Nielsen surveys and regularly scanning our purchases each week. Nielsen adds new prizes to their prize catalog regularly, so it’s always fun to look at the new prizes they’ve added. You can see our Nielsen Homescanner here:

Someone had mentioned the cost involved in charging the scanner awhile back. I initially charged the scanner when receiving it two months ago, and finally had to recharge it for the very first time. Recharging the scanner took a few hours. So the cost of charging the scanner is very minimal, since I am currently only charging it a few hours every 2 months! And we are scanning our purchases and transmitting them every week!

Have you found it time-consuming to input all of your purchases? Some reviews I've read said that it took them forever because they had to input all of the prices as well, plus any coupons/discounts that they used. I've put off joining, because I figured that it would just be *one more thing* to add to my plate, on top of having two toddlers and a part-time job!

Your input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I have been a member of the survey panel and recently signed up to join the homescan panel as well. They just opened up in my area and I got some kind of survey from them so I am keeping my fingers crossed that I get picked!!!!!!

Young Family – We do input prices (because we shop at Walmart), but most grocery stores will automatically have prices input for you, so Walmart appears to be an exception. You do list any coupons you use as well. Honestly, once you get the hang of it, it's like second nature and you move through it quickly.

I recommend you give it a try for a month or two and see what you think for yourself. If you don't like it, you just send the scanner back at no charge. But if you never try it, you'll always be wondering "what if". :)

Lulu – awesome! Sounds like you will soon be scanning! Congrats!
