Are you trying to lose weight in 2010? Or maybe even just trying to exercise more and get in better shape? If so, we want you to JOIN US!!! Several of us were chatting in the Old Navy chat room last Thursday about our weight loss and fitness goals for 2010. Some people mentioned they would be interested in an informal “weight loss” / fitness group to help them stay accountable for their weight loss and fitness goals in 2010! We would like to extend an invitation to all of our readers to join us!
I know I need to exercise more, but with a newborn and a toddler, I can never seem to find the time. This informal group would help all of us stay accountable for our fitness/weight loss goals (whatever those goals may be – your goals are individual and totally up to YOU!) and help us all motivate each other to stay on track!
ASK THE READERS: Are you interested in joining us and other readers for “Get Fit 2010”? If so, please post a comment on this blog post. We would like to gauge reader interest and then determine how to proceed from here. If there is enough interest, we will even do some GIVEAWAYS to help motivate everyone who is trying to get fit / lose weight! 🙂
NOTE: Some of the people in the chat room mentioned they are having good success (losing weight and inches!) with the Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred DVD, and I was curious to try this program as well… so I just bought it from Amazon for FREE using my free Amazon gift cards from searching online with Swagbucks and getting paid to rate websites with iRazoo. It’s only $8.99 to begin with!! So if you have no idea of where to begin with a goal, this may be a place to start… but again, YOUR personal goals for weight loss and fitness are up to you.

This is a great idea! I work for a local gym, but use two to keep up with my schedule -the other is open 24 hours-. I have a great tool that helps me on a daily basis. If you have an iPhone or iTouch get the My Fitness Pal app. If not try the website http://www.myfitnesspal.com. It’s a FABULOUS calorie tracker that has nearly everything I need – also allows you to log your workouts =)
If you don’t want to write in a diary what you’ve eaten… DON’T EAT IT!!

I am trying to get under 200lbs this year. My birthdya is in March and I want to hit it before then. My reward will be baking myself the most delish cake I can find and having a big slice of it!
Last year I got started with yoga and food journaling and was able to take off 20 lbs, but have put 5 back on. 17 lbs in 8 weeks seems like a doable goal, but it will take work. I have a few friends doing the same and we are posting our meals to each other on facebook to help keep accountable. My older two are on a swim team and I can use the treadmill while they are at swim 3 days a week. I might get the shred for the other 3 days a week. A day of rest and not stressing your food/workout has always seemed essential to me.

Jenn, interesting idea about a day of not stressing about food and work out one day a week. I really like that idea. Has anyone else tried something like this?

Im IN!
I lost 50 lbs last year (Jan. to Jan.) with Wii fit and my exercise bike but I still have 50 to go before I’m at a healthy weight. I just got the Biggest Loser for Wii and am loving it so far. DH and I also started slimfast as an easy meal alternative.
I was finding myself eating the things I cook for the kids (chicken nuggets, corn, peas, pasta, etc…) and just snacking on it all instead of truly eating a ballanced diet. I’ve found that if I drink 5 bottles of water a day and eat 5 small meals a day I drop the weight pretty fast. About 2-3 lbs a week with out exercise!
Let us know how to post our progress, tips and pic’s.!

I’m so in! After having my son in November (MSM, I was due the same day as you! I remember we chatted about it a couple months ago in the Old Navy chatroom) it has been tough to stay physically active because I have a very bad back, but I’m trying to drop weight by controlling my diet. After I finish with a 3 month back strengthening program I should be able to exercise regularly. But through breastfeeding and meager attempts at watching what I eat I have managed to lose 40 pounds, bringing me within 5 pounds of my pre-pregnancy #2 weight. However I am still 70 pounds up from pre-pregnancy #1 so I definitely have a lot more to go!
Once all the details are worked out, I would love to hear about how it will work out!

Jennie – Hi, I remember you! What day was your baby born? I can’t believe you’ve lost 40 pounds, that is amazing! I am certainly NOT a doctor, but one thing I have heard is that while breastfeeding if you don’t eat enough, you can actually lose LESS weight, and your baby will not gain weight well either. I am not limiting what I eat at all right now, because I want to make sure the baby gets plenty of milk and keep my milk production up. But I do want to exercise and get fit… tone up my muscles! So I can better chase after my 2 year old LOL. 🙂

This is a goal that is at the top of my list this year! I have to lose the baby weight I have been carrying around for….ahem…7 years lol, plus I just want to be healthy for my kids!! I’d totally join!!
Jen Dubbs says
Me too. Entering a local walk website challenge (daily step counter) & company weight race besides going to the gym more.

took before/after pics just after 2 weeks and you can definitely see a difference! The scale still says the same thing.. weird!
Money Savin' Momma says
If you can see a difference, I would not focus on the scale. You’ve probably gained muscle and muscle tone, and that is what is important. Plus, you’ve gotten a great workout to help your heart too!

MSM:
My baby (Max) was born Nov. 18th. He came racing out and I was only in labor for 2 hours and 45 minutes! What day was your baby born?
As far as losing weight, the weight honestly just fell off during the first month and has plateaud since then. The only things I have been doing is using light salad dressing, avoiding fast food, eating more fresh foods instead of processed or canned food, etc. I’m certainly still eating enough and my little porker has already gained 3 pounds!

I’ve tried “30 Day Shred” and I liked it. I would definitely recommend it. However, it’s not an easy workout. You do need to work hard and push! and of course, you need to watch your diet.

Is there a way we can make the accountability group easily accessible? (or maybe I just need another bookmark.)
I plan on hitting it pretty hard as soon as we get into the swing of the new semester at school and all schedules are finalized. I walked a half a mile yesterday…big step for me. Gotta get some hand weights so I can make full use of 30 day shred.
Take note of that: YOU NEED HAND WEIGHTS for 30 Day Shred. I didn’t read that fine print until after I got home. lol
Cathy says
I’m dfinitely interested. Just quit smoking and and to get healthier.
